Family History Course: Saturdays, 1st and 8th August 2009.
Once again this year the Heraldry & Genealogy Society will run its Family History Course. The theme this year is 'Exploring in the past lane' This course is excellent for those new to family history research and, at the same time, offers the opportunity for the more experienced researcher to learn about the latest developments and resources available to them. NSW & ACT Association of Family History Societies, State Conference 2009.
The State Conference is being hosted by Wyong Family History Group in Wyong on Friday 18th September, Saturday 19th September and Sunday 20th September 2009 at Wyong Racecourse with the theme "From Home to the Hinterland". Go to website.
Education Session, Saturday 4 July 2009
On Saturday 4th July at the HAGSOC Library at Hughes Tom Bellas and Peter Procter will be running an excellent course on Using Wills and Probate and Interpreting Old Handwriting. From Peter, you will learn how to access these records and what information to glean from them. From Tom we will hear about how and why the forms of handwriting have changed, what this means for the family historian and some techniques to help us interpret the words and phrases written on these documents. The session will start at 9.30am and finish about 11.30.
If you would like to attend, the sheet is at the Library. If you aren't able to get in to put you name down, phone the Library (62829356) preferably while the Library is open, and put your name down. Numbers are limited.
Women Transported
The National Archives has an exhibition on at the moment about Women Transported. If you have an interest in Convict Women it is certainly worth a visit. They have guided gallery tours 2-3pm on 9, 16, 23 and 30 June. Free but bookings essential. Contact NAA on 6212 3956. There is a Speakers Corner on Sunday 14th with the Curator but this is fully booked with a significant waiting list.
