A message from Kerrie Gray, Congress 2015 Convenor

It would be almost impossible for HAGSOC members not to  know that HAGSOC is hosting Australiasia's  largest family history conference right here in Canberra this March. From the 26-30 March we will have 35 expert speakers from Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA presenting for us in over 80 different sessions.

Congress 2015 is the best opportunity Canberra researchers will get to access such an impressive set of speakers right on our doorstep. And for those who made it to the NSW & ACT Conference in 2013, you'll know that HAGSOC puts on an excellent event.

You can come for a day or  two, or a full four days of talks, demonstrations, research and social activities.

Congress only comes around once every three years and the last time we hosted in Canberra was in 1986. Don't miss out!

Welcome to The Heraldry and Genealogy Society of Canberra. We look forward to seeing you in the Library, at a monthly meeting, at a Special Interest Group or at one of our education sessions.

Peter Stanley

Next Monthly Meeting, 3 March

Peter Stanley, a Research Professor at UNSW Canberra, is one of Australia’s most prominent military-social historians will be talking at our next monthly meeting on 4 March. His topic will be about Finding the lost boys of Anzac. He discusses the stories of the 101 men of the very first wave to land on Gallipoli who also died on 25 April 1915. In that Lost Boys of Anzac deals in detail with the effects on their families of their deaths, it represents a new approach to military history in Australia. In writing the book Peter used many sources familiar to family historians. He will outline how he researched the book, and talk about what has come to light subsequently.

Special Interest Groups

HAGSOC has thirteen Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and a new Legacy User Group, all of which meet on a regular basis.  These are a valuable resource for both new and experienced members and provide a great opportunity to share ideas and information about resources. SIGs are for members only.

If you are a member and have not yet ventured into the SIGs, do so now - they are all beginning their year and will welcome new members.
