We’re celebrating family history all this month.

There’s lots of opportunities to further your research whether you’re just starting or have been researching for longer than you care to admit.

Take advantage of the education sessions on offer, come to a monthly meeting or drop into our Library and chat to our helpful volunteers. If you're stuck, you can book a 'brick wall' session with our Research Officer.

Remember we are trialling extended opening hours at our Library on Wednesdays (9.30am to 3.30pm) and there are great resources available. If you haven’t been to the Library for a while, drop in and see what’s going on.

And don’t forget to check out the National Family History Month website  – there’s plenty of activities if you’re travelling but, if you’re staying home, there’s also some great freebies under ‘Online Events’.

Happy National Family History Month.

Members using FAMILY TREE MAKER (or considering using it) are invited to join our new Family Tree Maker Users Group.

The Group will meet in the Education Room at the Library on the second Thursday of each month from 10.30 to 12.00 noon. This is a great opportunity to learn about this very popular family history program in a relaxed and co-operative environment. A gold coin donation will cover the meeting and a cuppa.

Meetings are currently scheduled for

14 August

11 September

9 October

13 November

Barbara Broad is the Convenor and is looking forward to welcoming FTM users to the group.

New Library Opening Hours PDF Print E-mail

Based on a suggestion made at our members' workshop in April during June, July and August, the Society is trialling extended opening hours on Wednesdays. The Library will be open from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Wednesdays. We hope the additional hours will benefit researchers who can now have a solid six hours to use our facilities.

Towards the end of the trial, Council will assess the popularity of the new arrangements and whether they will be retained.

If you want to see extended hours continue, please show your support during the trial period.

Special Interest Groups

HAGSOC has thirteen Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and a new Legacy User Group, all of which meet on a regular basis.  These are a valuable resource for both new and experienced members and provide a great opportunity to share ideas and information about resources. SIGs are for members only.

If you are a member and have not yet ventured into the SIGs, do so now - they are all beginning their year and will welcome new members.
