The HAGSOC Council would like to wish all members and their families an enjoyable Christmas and a fruitful New Year. If you are catching up with family, make sure to share your research results or to ask those questions you've been saving up. Please take special care if you are travelling and return safely.

Library Closure

Over the Christmas - New Year break, our volunteers are taking a well deserved rest. The Library will be closed from 2:00pm on Thursday 18 December 2014 and will reopen on Tuesday 13 January 2015 at 11:00am.

Fumigation Shutdown

Please note that the Library will be CLOSED TO EVERYONE (including all volunteers) from Saturday 20 December 2014 to Monday 22 December 2014 for fumigation. It is dangerous to enter while chemicals are being used so please do not enter any rooms during this period. Signs will be in place for your safety.

Over the last three months, the Society has been trialling extended opening hours on Wednesdays. In view of the increased attendance and favourable comments, Council has decided to make this change permanent.

From September, the Library will open from 10.00am to 3.30pm on Wednesday (in addition to Tuesday and Thursday 11.00am to 2.00pm and Saturday and Sunday 2.00pm to 5.00pm).

Council is very grateful to Robyn and Tina who staffed Wednesdays for the entire trial and collected statistics and feedback.

We hope the additional hours will benefit researchers who now have a solid five and a half hour block to use our facilities.

Members using FAMILY TREE MAKER (or considering using it) are invited to join our new Family Tree Maker Users Group.

The Group will meet in the Education Room at the Library on the second Thursday of each month from 10.00 to 12.00 noon. This is a great opportunity to learn about this very popular family history program in a relaxed and co-operative environment. A gold coin donation will cover the meeting and a cuppa.

Meetings are currently scheduled for

14 August

11 September

9 October

13 November

Barbara Broad is the Convenor and is looking forward to welcoming FTM users to the group.

Special Interest Groups

HAGSOC has thirteen Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and a new Legacy User Group, all of which meet on a regular basis.  These are a valuable resource for both new and experienced members and provide a great opportunity to share ideas and information about resources. SIGs are for members only.

If you are a member and have not yet ventured into the SIGs, do so now - they are all beginning their year and will welcome new members.
